Harry had a vision for the betterment of all working people that was second to none. He had great instincts and was a tremendous teacher. I had the honor to know and work with Harry while I was the Dean of Empire State College Labor College. The work he did to make sure that college for working people was maintained was an inspiration to me and all those who labored there.

I have very fond memories of Local#3 when I had the privilege of working during the Summers when I was going to college. My dad was a local 3 member and the name of Harry Van Arsdale was always held in the highest respect in our household. It is with great appreciation and respect that I write this tribute to a man who always had the best interests of Local# and its members. Thank you very much.

As someone who grew up in a Local#3 family I saw firsthand the evidence of Harry's vision and compassion for his fellow man. I grew up in Electchecter. I attended college through a scholarship from the Educational & Cultural Trust Fund. These are just two examples of Harry's legacy. Many a Sunday night I saw Harry walking into the Joint Board by himself with an armload of files. He was going to work when he could have been home reading a book or watching television. When you said hello to Harry he would always respond: Hello lad!. Harry could walk with govenors and senators and still walk among the rank & file with the same ease. Even though I am no longer a member of Local#3 I can honestly say that Harry had a profound impact on my life. Thank you Harry.

I had the honor of sitting and talking to Harry at the Apprentice Picnic my first year in this great organization. I will always remember how sick as he was Harry returned to the apprentice meetings as soon as he was able uplifting the spirit of every member present in the Auditorium. The last time I saw Harry was a few months before his death. He was addressing a large group of us who had gathered at a rally downtown Manhattan on WALL Street. I carry my Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Assoc. card everyday with great pride.

After seeing your website It reminded me of the honor I had to be walking side by side with HARRY during the organizing of the taxicabs in the middle sixties. To witness his courage and resolve in this effort will always be a part of my fond admiration for his staunch support for the working people. god bless local#3!!!
